Warrior Classic February 18th-19th

2017 Results

As you know the Philomath Booster Club's 11th Annual Warrior Classic Basketball Tournament was held in Philomath over the weekend of February 18th and 19th. Twenty-nine teams traveled to Philomath to compete at the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade levels, playing 54 games over the two days. The tournament brought a lot of people to Philomath for the weekend, supporting the local business community. This very successful event was made possible by a collaborative effort on behalf of the Philomath School District, the Philomath Booster Club, the high school and middle school basketball teams and coaches, and the many families and friends who support basketball in Philomath.

We are happy to report that this year’s tournament raised over $8,000. The Booster Club Board has decided to allocate the funds in the following manner:

  • $4,000 to the high school basketball programs to be divided equally between the girls and boys teams ($2,000 each). The high school athletes worked all weekend keeping clock and book and cleaning facilities. Many of their parents volunteered to work admission gates, concessions and clean-up.
  • $1,500 matching funds for next year’s middle school basketball tournament teams. Our tournament has expanded each year and a lot of that growth is possible due to help from the middle school teams and parents, who also volunteer in various capacities over the weekend.
  • The remaining funds will be retained by the booster club for allocation as part of next year’s budgeting process (budgeted for items such as waivers for all sports, safety investments, scholarships, etc.).

Five Philomath middle school teams participated in this year’s tournament and four were Champions in their divisions (7th and 8th grade girls and 6th and 8th grade boys)! This event provided an excellent opportunity for these teams to compete at a higher level and also provided the local community a glimpse of our future Warriors.

We appreciate continued support from these local families and businesses who provided sponsorships for the tournament: Corvallis Pediatric Dentistry, Down Home Printing, Miller Timber Services, Pepsi-Cola, CH2M Hill, Philomath Dairy Queen, Hewlett-Packard, Duane and Marie Barrett, Kenneth and Carol Meyer, and Timber Supply Company.

The high school and middle school basketball teams (and many of their parents) did a tremendous job with all their efforts at the tournament. We received numerous compliments from visiting teams and fans. The success of this event is definitely a combined team effort with large numbers of volunteers to make it successful.

Thank you to all volunteers who helped at the tournament.

Stronger together—Warrior Nation!
